James Dunlap (Mr. D) has practiced martial arts for over 30 years. Family connections in law enforcement and the military started James training at a young age. Having studied various styles of martial arts, including Northern Praying Mantis, Yang Tai Chi, Escrima, American Kenpo, and Ryukyu Kempo; James turned his talents first to protecting people. He worked as a mental health assistant, bouncer, and bodyguard, honing his skills in real-world application.

His desire to help others led him to teach, where he has enjoyed training hundreds of students over the years. In recent years, he has developed a martial arts system focusing on teaching children the techniques required to respond to violent and abusive situations. This program, while based on the similarities of all martial arts, is focused on the character development of the student and is designed to help with the mental, physical, and emotional aspects of conflict.

He believes the true gift of training in martial arts is the personal development aspect. Our present society has lost a bit of the old world mentoring ways that were once a part of ours and all cultures. We have lost being coached through things. A friend once said, "it's not our mission to prevent our children from having problems, it's our duty to help them walk through them and learn from them." The question is more when do you want them to deal with life's inevitable situations. When they are home and your able to guide them or when they are in the real world where it really matters.

All training is are simulated situations to learn to work through to prepare for the real one.
